A major traffic switch is planned Tuesday, Oct. 10 along a section of the Mountain Parkway in Magoffin County, approximately 10 miles west of Salyersville. Motorists should expect temporary stops and delays throughout the day from mile markers 65 to 68 as crews work to shift traffic from the existing parkway to the new parkway alignment.
Multiple locations and roads will be impacted by the switch and new alignment:
Mountain Parkway
KY 134
Cow Creek Road
Drivers should slow down and use caution when traveling through all these locations. Signage is in place to alert drivers to the traffic switch, closures and detours. State troopers will also be on-site at the traffic switch locations for multiple weeks, beginning Oct. 10, to help alert motorists to the road changes.
Construction schedules may be adjusted due to weather or other unforeseen events.
About the Mountain Parkway Expansion
The Mountain Parkway Expansion is a 45-mile transportation improvement project that will create a wider, safer connection between Eastern Kentucky and the rest of the Commonwealth. It is a key transportation project designed to close the only gap in a 400-mile, four-lane, high-speed corridor for commerce and mobility across Kentucky from Pikeville to Paducah.
The project will widen 32 miles of existing parkway to four lanes and extend the parkway by 13 miles between Salyersville to Prestonsburg.
