Construction team will share details of Restaurant Row project at Sept. 27 event
SALYERSVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 21, 2016) – Travelers, residents and business owners will get a preview of a three-year construction project to improve safety and mobility in the Restaurant Row segment of the Mountain Parkway at a public meeting next week.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, along with representatives from engineering and construction firms, will share information from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 27 at Magoffin County High School, 1100 East Mountain Parkway.
The meeting will provide an overview of the construction plans and schedule for the nearly 2½ mile corridor in Salyersville – from just east of the end of the current Mountain Parkway to just east of the KY 114/US 460 junction. Attendees also will receive information on resources available during the construction phase to receive updates on the project as it advances.
Over the next three years, the main roadway will be widened to four lanes and converted to a partially controlled parkway that will improve the flow of traffic through Restaurant Row while ensuring access to businesses, residences and other facilities. The project also includes improving and expanding a system of local access roads along what will become an extension of the Mountain Parkway.
About the Mountain Parkway Expansion
The Mountain Parkway Expansion is a 46-mile transportation improvement project that will create a wider, safer connection between Eastern Kentucky and the rest of the Commonwealth. It is a key transportation project designed to close the only gap in a 400-mile, four-lane, high-speed corridor for commerce and mobility across Kentucky from Pikeville to Paducah. The project will widen 30 miles of the existing parkway to four lanes and extend the parkway by about 16 miles between Salyersville and Prestonsburg.
